Hosted by Julia Glotz, our panel of industry experts will be discussing why they believe sourdough has become so popular and what the challenges and opportunities are when it comes to getting more sourdough to bread consumers in the future. Meet the panellists below.

What will be discussed?

Our panellists will be discussing the evolution of sourdough bread and the short and long-term future of sourdough in the bread category. We’ll also be sharing some of the insights from Puratos’ latest sourdough research and some advice for large and small bakers.

Kevan Roberts

Baker, teacher and author of Baking Sourdough
 
Kevan has a wealth of knowledge of the baking industry spanning three decades. He is a published author of ‘Baking Sourdough’ and has worked in many aspects of the industry, from artisan bakeries to New Product development. From September, Kevan will be joining the oldest Baking school in the world as a Bread Science Lecturer teaching the next generation of bakers.

Vince Bamford

Vince Bamford is a professional writer, editor and designer. A journalist for more than 30 years, he began his career covering news on local papers before specialising in the food and drink industry. Vince's staff roles have included heading up The Grocer's products coverage, reporting on global trends for website Bakery & Snacks and, most recently, four years as editor of British Baker. It was while editing British Baker that he developed a keen interest in baking bread, which has included making his own sourdough starters. He refuses to give these cute names.

Karl is Puratos’ dedicated ‘Sourdough Librarian’, traveling the world in search of old bread traditions and preserving the sourdoughs in the Puratos Sourdough Library since 2013.

James Slater

Research & Development Director
 
James' passion for bakery led him to Puratos in 2010 where he spent 5 years at Puratos France. He now leads the R&D team at Puratos UK and is President of ABIM. Most recently he’s been creating delicious sourdoughs for Puratos UK using a variety of gluten free flours, all in preparation for the launch of the first UK-made living sourdough range.

Philippa joined Puratos 2 years ago. Since then she’s become a sourdough convert and has recently led in an depth consumer research project into sourdough awareness, usage and attitudes. She’ll be revealing some of the findings during the discussion.
